As the blessed month of Ramadan passes the halfway mark, 1440 years ago, on the 17th of Ramadan 2AH, truth was distinguished from falsehood.
This is the day that three hundred and thirteen Muslims led by Nabi Muhammad (SAW) lined-up against a thousand well-equipped disbelievers from Makkah in the battle of Badr.
The clash is described as the day of Yawmul Furqan, the day where truth was distinguished from falsehood.
The Muslims won the battle with 14 Sahaba (RA) being martyred while 70 non-believers were killed, but had they lost, scholars say, the deen of Islam would have been extinguished forever.
Speaking during the suhoor programme on Radio Islam on the rainy day of Jumu’ah, Ml Sulaimaan Ravat says Sahaba (RA) sacrificed their lives so that Islam could spread to every corner of the world.
“Think about the Sahaba (RA) on the day of the Battle of Badr, outnumbered, outgunned so to speak, yet they remained firm and Allah sent rain on that day. The day of Badr Allah sent the rain as a mercy. Allah talks about it in Surah Al Anfal.”
The Sahaba (RA) were not alone in their quest for victory.
Allah says in the Qur’an: “And remember the time when Allah reassured the believers that I am sending down three thousands Angels to help you.”
Morning drive presenter Ml Junaid Kharsany says Nabi Muhammad (SAW) and the Sahaba (RA) confronted an enemy without them even expecting combat.
“But yet Allah (SWT) returns them with a great victory the victory of haq over baatil.”
Mufti Yusuf Moosagie says Allah granted Muslims victory for a number of reasons.
“The Muslims had form conviction in whatever Allah has instructed them; They had total reliance in Allah and they were prepared to sacrifice everything for the sake of the religion of Allah (SWT). Whatever Nabi (SAW) instructed them to do, they wholeheartedly followed that out.”
Mufti Moosagie says 1400 years later, the clash between truth and falsehood continues, adding that Muslims need to reflect on the lessons of the Battle of Badr and implement it in our lives and Allah will grant us a similar victory.
