The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has expressed strong solidarity with the Asian-American community after mass shootings at three different businesses in Atlanta in the US.
At least eight people were shot dead at three massage parlors on Tuesday evening raising fears that the crimes may have targeted people of Asian descent.
According to law enforcement officials, six of the people killed were Asian two were white while one was a women.
A 21-year-old suspect identified as Robert Aaron Long was captured in Crisp County, south of Atlanta after a manhunt.
Speaking to Radio Islam live from the US during the America Report, Cair’s Ibrahim Hooper has called for a full hate crime investigation into the shooting.
“It comes in the midst of this tremendous fight in anti-Asian hate around our country namely prompted by Trump’s promotion of his smear, the China virus and all that kind of thing and creating divisions in society.”
Hooper says they are concerned about the motive for the shootings.
“The latest word that is coming out there might be some kind of sexual motive, but that doesn’t mean that that takes away the hate motive because there can be a lot of reasons for hate in these kinds of things and we are just waiting to see and hoping for transparent and swift investigation.”
Hooper also shared news about the anniversary of the New Zealand Masjid attacks, renewed calls for the expulsion of Marjorie Taylor Greene , a record number of 181 Muslim candidates running for office in 28 states and Washington DC in 2020 and a few positive stories.
