Media personality Ashraf Garda says while there is a good perception of South Africa among African countries, there are also a number of concerns that have to be addressed.

Garda was presenting the Africa Report on Radio Islam on Tuesday, highlighting his trip to Rwanda where he moderated a strategic communications masterclass.

He was invited by Nigeria based African Leadership Magazine with links in the UK to facilitate conferences in East and West Africa.

Garda says while the image of South Africa is good, there are concerns among African countries.

“They all said the country has been successful over the years, but there’s a concern that South Africa’s slipping. The other one is the issue of crime that they are well aware of and particularly they are concerned about what they see as xenophobic attacks against Nigerians.”

Garda says the Muslim population in Rwanda is miniscule due to the genocide.

“The dominant tribal groups in Rwanda are the Hutu’s and Tutsi’s and Muslims are derived from both of them. But historically, the Muslim population has been miniscule, I think like sitting on 1%, so virtually nothing.”

Garda says despite internal political issues, Rwanda has become one of the economic success stories of the African continent.
