Residents of Arcon Park near Vereeniging, seven kilometres from Roshnee are angry following electricity woes that leaves the area without power for almost a whole month.

The residents say they are fed up and don’t know who to turn to as officials from the Emfuleni Municipality have allegedly turned a blind eye to their pleas of having a stable electricity supply.

Speaking to Radio Islam, resident Zubair Monga says there are many issues related to the electricity in Arcon Park.

“Unfortunately our Emfuleni Municipality does not have the expertise to even answer these types of questions. We are sitting in a major dilemma, hence we are reaching out to anybody to say ‘please anybody with influence can maybe try and make a difference here.'”

Zubair says residents are not coping with the power outages which is having a devastating impact on the community.

“It’s really a bad situation. In the area there is predominantly aged people. There’s plenty pensioners and it’s a major dilemma, losing food, poor people not having an income. So it’s a major problem in this area.”

Zubair’s brother Shiraz says they have turned to higher authority to resolve the electricity crisis adding that the infrastructure in the area is collapsing.

“We have one one of the residents of Arcon Park whose based in the Presidents office and he’s now trying to get us meetings with David Makhura, the premier of Gauteng and all the higher up officials. We’ve also engaged with a group called ERPA, a group of attorneys and lawyers who are basically taking on the Emfuleni local municipality.”

Zubair alleges there is massive corruption and incompetence in the Emfuleni Municipality which is now affecting the residents of Arcon Park.
