Afriforum says Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi’s claims that the organization wants to assassinate him are ludicrous and that he should report the matter to the police.

The spat between AfriForum and Lesufi has intensified with the lobby group threatening to sue Lesufi for claiming the group was behind an assassination plot against him.

Lesufi yesterday gave an update on the admissions and placement of pupils in Gauteng schools for 2020, stating that the campaign launched against him by AfriForum was merely what he called a smokescreen.

AfriForum has been calling for Lesufi to be sacked after thousands of parents had not received any feedback on their children’s admission at the beg inning of this month.

Speaking to Radio Islam, AfriForums Kallie Kriel says Lesufi is blatantly lying about the assassination attempts.

“That’s not the way we work. We might differ with him, but we function within the democratic framework and we work and we act within the framework of the law as well. But unfortunately I think Mr. Lesufi is quite desperate. He now has to try to avert attention from his own failures.”

Kriel says Lesufi should come forward with proof of the assassination claims.

“If he cannot do so, than he must take responsibility because we are going to sue him and hopefully teach him a lesson that one cannot make this kind of dangerous statements which not only polarizes society, but I think it puts people in a position where they are being portrayed as people that are willing to kill.”

Kriel claims Lesufi has underperformed in building schools saying they have received a number of complaints from all communities including black, white, Indian and coloured whose children are not placed into the schools they need to be.
