A 42-year-old Limpopo mother has appeared in court for beating her 11-month-old baby to death.

The woman was arrested in June and charged with murder.

The infant was rescued by community members after they heard the baby crying.

The National Prosecuting Authority’s (NPA) Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi says the baby was rushed to the Lambani clinic but was declared dead on arrival.

“The Limpopo mother, Mutavhatsindi Ndishavhani appeared in Tshaulu periodical court after she beat her 11-month-old baby to death. It is alleged she locked herself and the boy inside her house and then started hitting the child.”

Malabi-Dzhangi says the mother is expected back in court at the end of the month.
