Lenasia Woman Charged with Land Invasion

February 18, 2015

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News, 2015-02-18

A woman has been charged with land invasion and the connection of illegal water meters in Tangerine Street, Lenasia extension 13, south of Johannesburg on Friday night last week.

The woman appeared in Lenasia Magistrates Court on Monday and has been released on bail.

A member of the community patrol and resident of extension 13 Mohamed Sheraz said, members of the community discovered two individuals allegedly busy with illegal water connections.

“A resident discovered two people digging up a hole outside an adjacent property and they contacted us on our WhatsApp group…When I got there I found two gentlemen, one employed by Joburg Water that were connecting illegal meters to the main water line.”

“A lady that came from the other side of extension 13 claimed that the property belongs to her and upon investigation it did not belong to her, it was council property. We took her to the police station had her arrested,” said Sheraz.

Sheraz claimed that an ANC representative named Chris Mhlangu represented the woman and the two men at the Lenasia police station and while the woman was charged and released on bail, the two men left the police station without being charged.

“We are escalating this to a higher level so that I want to institute legal action against him and the people who actually got those other suspects to leave because that is interfering with the police investigation.

Sheraz said the discovery of the illegal activities could be part of a bigger syndicate involved in corruption.

“There’s a meeting taking place between the ward councillors and the SAPS of Lenasia…This land invasion is not happening in any other area in Lenasia besides Extension 13.”

“We need the unity of every single individual that reside in Lenasia to attend the meeting,” said Sheraz
