A woman from Violet Street in Lenasia Extension 3, South of Johannesburg was brutally beaten after armed robbers stormed her home on Wednesday June 25.
The woman who wants to remain anonymous said that she went to open the gate at about 11:15am for one of the builders who were doing renovations to her home when the incident happened.
“I saw this guy, very smartly dressed walking in my lounge saying he was an interior designer.”
Knowing that she hadn’t hired any interior designers, the woman went to her front door to investigate when she was accosted by another smartly dressed suspect carrying a bag.
“He came near me and said: ‘you’re being robbed,’” said the woman.
The armed suspect than brought the builders from outside into the home and made them lie on the ground in the lounge.
While the one suspect kept watch, the other grabbed the woman and went from room to room in the home demanding cash and valuables.
After handing over and undisclosed amount of cash and valuables, the thug than tied the woman up and started brutally beating her on the head. “He said I must not look at him and I mustn’t say a word.”
The woman said there was a third suspect allegedly brandishing an AK47 who was in the backyard accosting the domestic servants also making them lie on the ground.
“He then came into my room and told the guy hitting me, ‘please don’t hit her because she’s not doing anything.’”
After ransacking the home and grabbing their loot, the three men then locked the woman up in the bathroom and fled in white BMW X5 with no registration plates.
The woman was rescued by her daughter who was at the neighbours house and heard the commotion. She was taken to Lenmed Private Hospital and treated for wounds to the head.
The police’s Kay Makhubela confirmed the incident. “We are searching for these suspects and hoping the community will assist us with information so that we can arrest them.”
