January 15, 2015

Johannesburg Water has confirmed in a statement that the drinking water in Lenasia, south of Johannesburg is safe for human consumption.

This after residents complained of a funny smell with some reports claiming many children had also allegedly fallen ill by drinking the water.

In the statement Joburg Water said samples were taken from reservoirs, distribution and residential properties and were tested following the water quality complaints received from Lenasia on Thursday.

Joburg Water said residents can rest assured that the results received from the tests conducted comply with the National Drinking Water Standard which indicates that the drinking water supplied to Lenasia is of good quality.

“The test results from Johannesburg Water Lab were received this morning and we can confirm that the water is clean in Lenasia and safe for human consumption,” Joburg Water spokesperson Puleng Mopeli told Radio Islam.

“They also conducted tests on taste and odour and the water was cleared of any taste or odour,” said Mopeli
