Police have confirmed that a 47-year-old teacher accused of sexually harassing a 14-year-old pupil at a Lenasia South high school has been arrested.

The arrest of the teacher follows claims by her mother that the educator, who doesn’t teach her daughter, had been making sexual advances on the teen since February last year.

Earlier this week the education department said the educator was under investigation and considered placing him under precautionary suspension.

The polices Kalipha Mvula says the teacher was apprehended at his home this morning.

“The suspect has been charged with sexual assault. The arrest of the suspect follows the allegation that the suspect sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl and a case docket was open for investigations to be conducted.”

Mvula says the suspect is expected to appear in the Protea Magistrates Court on Monday.
