Lenasia South Residents Protest Over ‘Illegal Land Grabs’

April 25, 2017

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 25-04-2017

Residents in Lenasia South extension 2 are protesting over what they call illegal land invasion.

Residents have barricaded the K43 with rocks and burning tyres this morning.

They says land which has been left unoccupied for 15 years have been invaded by people who have built shacks.

The JMPD’s Wayne Minnaar says motorists should seek alternate routes.

“The situation is very tense on K43. The protest is about occupying of land illegally, however there is currently meetings taking place between the representation of the city and those people who want to take the land. Motorists are advised to avoid that area. They can use the old Lawley road and Golden Highway as alternative routes for now.”

Protest organiser Gugu Manana said on Facebook that residents are not happy.

“They come here in their fancy cars, BM’s and Mercs and want to steal land which they will sell but I must pay a bond.”
