Lenasia South extension 4 residents are up in arms after having no electricity for at least three days.

On Tuesday, which has been described as the coldest day of year, the residents took to the streets burning tyres demanding answers from City Power about the electricity outage.

In a tweet on Tuesday, City Power said the outage was caused by a distributor that had tripped and there was an emergency isolation due to fire.

The power utility in the same tweet said that the estimated time of restoration would be 6am on Wednesday.

However, power has still not been restored to affected residents.

Chairperson of the Lenasia South Residents Association Joy Govender says they want answers from City Power about the electricity outage.

“We’ve been trying to get hold of everyone possible to assist us and absolutely nobody can give us a proper story. We’ve been lied to, electricity would be restored by six o’ clock this morning, nothing has happened. We were then told twelve o’ clock, nothing has happened. The parties in power refuse comment. All we are getting is ‘we don’t know, we don’t know what the problem is.’”

Govender says City Power must provide generators to affected residents as they are bearing the brunt of the cold weather, which the South African Weather Service says is expected to last at least until the weekend.
