Five people arrested for protesting at the Lenasia South Police Station have been granted bail of a R 1,000 each.
The group were released from the Moroka Police Station on Saturday.
The suspects were arrested on Friday after they protested the killing of community patroller Emran Mohammad and two shoppers who were shot dead during a robbery at a Shoprite store on Thursday.
Police say protesters took chairs and tables and started banging them in the entrance of the police station.
Spokesperson Brenda Muridili says the man are expected to appear in the Lenasia Magistrates Court on Monday.
“The five people that were arrested at the Lenasia South Police Station have been charged with theft, malicious damage to property and public violence. They have been granted R 1,000 bail each and they will be appearing in the Lenasia Magistrates Court on Monday.”
