A Lenasia South family has been left traumatized after a group of armed criminals broke into their home in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
It’s understood the suspects gained entry into the Flamingo Crescent home by cutting through the trellidor while the family were taking a nap after their pre-dawn meal during the month of Ramadan.
Police say the brazen criminals tied up the family and ransacked the home demanding cash and valuables.
Spokesperson Kalipa Mvula says they are investigating a case of house robbery.
“They held up the family members at gunpoint and took them into the main bedroom. The suspects took several items including laptops, cell phones, and jewellery. At the moment the police are investigating a case of house robbery and no arrests have been made so far.”
Mvula says the police are deeply concerned by crimes involving the use of firearms and the threat of violence.
“It was alleged that the same suspects threatened to harm the youngest family member during the incident.”
Mvula says police will be working hand in hand with the community patrollers including beefing up surveillance to curb the scourge of break-ins currently affecting Lenasia South and surrounds.
