Lenasia Schools Becoming A Crime Hotspot For Burglary and Vandalism

July 26, 2022

Umamah Bakharia

Over the past few weeks, various schools in Lenasia have been targeted for burglary and vandalism. The latest one is the Nirvana Secondary School, Extension 3, where criminals entered the staff room’s ceiling.

According to Nirvana principal, Mr Suleman Sujee, the criminals did not take much, just some stationary and food from the fridge.

Lenasia Secondary School also reported a break-in over the weekend where 200 window latches were stolen and door locks, dictionaries, lab equipment, garden equipment and textbook. The suspects entered through the ceiling and cut the security cameras’ wires to avoid recognition.

“It is most distressing that the school has become the target for the criminals,” says principal Hawa Bibi Munshi. Adding: “it seems the school is a soft target because of the operation hours.”

In another incident, Alpha Primary School also reported break-ins at the school. However, the school has managed to capture the suspect on camera.

“We do have some footage of one of the guys for the last incident, there has been a case that has been opened, and it has been handed over to the police,” says Alpha principal Hasina Mahomed.

However, investigations are still ongoing on the various cases lodged at the Lenasia police station.

This is a developing story.
