Lenasia’s First Frail Care Centre For Males Under Construction

June 07, 2018

Mohamed Ameen Dabhelia – 2018/06/07

The Islamic Helpline together with the Jamiatul Ulama Lenasia branch and the Islamic Medical Association have opened up the Ahmed Mia Cassim Frail Care Centre for men as a joint project in Lenasia.

The initiative was named after the late Ahmed Mia Cassim, who showed a keen interest to start this centre while he was still alive, according to his niece and PR Ward Councillor, Zareena Motala.

Motala told Radio Islam that in his will it was stated the house would be used for community purposes.

“It was in line with his thinking of what kind of contribution he had to make to society, so hence this project.”

Speaking to Radio Islam – Secretary General of the Jamiatul Ulama South Africa Ml Ebrahim Bham says that whilst society advocates that the best care for one’s parents be in the family home, the organisation realised that some people in the community are faced with varying circumstances.

“In today’s fast paced world, and while they wish to care for and look after their elderly loved ones themselves, they simply do not have the resources to do this.”

The centre will be up and running in the next month or two and is amongst the first of its kind in Lenasia.

The centre is situated at 109 Sunbird Street in Extension 1.
