The residents of Lenasia Extension 9 and 10 are outraged after yet another electricity outage.
The area has been plagued by power interruptions especially during the blessed month of Ramadan leaving residents in the dark and frustrated.
On Tuesday City Power in a statement confirmed Lenasia Extension 9 and 10 had lost power, but technicians were unable to arrive on site to attend to the power interruption due to the community blocking the roads with rocks and burning tyres.
Ward Councillor Kishore Badal says cable and fuse theft is responsible for the interruptions.
“We’ve had high outage over the last few weeks which coincided with the period of Ramadan. The reality also is, these were very cold days. Our incidences of cable theft and fuse theft has been at its highest during this time.”
Meanwhile Police are monitoring the K43 in Lenasia following protest action.
Residents have blocked the roads with rocks and burning tyres on Wednesday forcing motorists to seek alternate routes.
It’s understood they are protesting over the power interruptions that have affected Lenasia Extension 9 and 10.
The JMPD’s Wayne Minnaar says they will be sending more officers to the area.
“There were protests last night on K43 and Volta Road in Lenasia because residents were complaining of not having electricity. However now there is reports of more protests and officers will have to be sent to that area to control the situation.”
