Lenasia Residents in Uproar over Big Stink

October 10, 2016

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 10-10-2016

Democratic Alliance (DA) Ward councillor Kishore Badal has told Radio Islam, they are trying to determine the source of a stench that is plaguing Lenasia.

The horrible smell has wafted throughout the suburb with reports indicating that its has affected areas as far as Extension 13, the Trade Route Mall area, Tembehlihle informal settlement and others areas.

Badal says he is aware of the stench and is investigating what the cause might be and where it’s possibly emanating from.

“We’ve investigated it, we’ve had Johannesburg water to look at it. We haven’t been able to pinpoint what precisely it is at moment. There is an assumption that because certain sewers had been sorted out and has been there for a period of time, that smell may still lingering and will disappear with time.”

Badal says that illegal dumping by residents and businesses may also be responsible for the smell  in the suburb.

“People seem to be dumping all over and Residents themselves are very concerned about the illegal dumping which could also be contributing to the smell.”

Badal says he would provide regular updates on the progress of the investigation of the stench.
