Residents in Lenasia, south of Johannesburg have complained of a funny smell in the drinking water.

There are also reports that many children have allegedly become sick by drinking the water.

“Since this morning I have been receiving complaints about the drinking water quality in Lenasia particularly in extensions 1 and 5,” said Local councilor for Lenasia Zarina Motala.

“I can report that the water is currently at the lab being tested. The results thereof will become available and will be communicated.”

Motala has advised residents to boil water to purify it before consumption.
