Lenasia Resident Riad Malek’s Killers Found Guilty

Two suspects arrested for the murder of 45-year-old Riad Malek in Lenasia Extension 10 in November last year have been found guilty in the Palmridge High Court, east of Johannesburg today.

Four of the suspects were released last year due to a lack of evidence

Malek, his wife Fatima and nephew Sa’ad Badat were on their way to drop off his son Moulana Yazeed at the Hudson Street Masjid in Lenasia when he was accosted by six armed men who tried to hijack him.

Malek was fatally shot, his wife sustained gunshot wounds while his 10-year old nephew escaped injury.

The suspects have been charged with murder, attempted murder, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

Sentencing is due to take place on the 19th of January 2015.
