The Lenasia police station says there has been a significant increase in the number of sexual assaults and hijackings in the suburb.
Police say they attended to a number of incidents and are warning residents to be vigilant.
Spokesperson Bafana Ndimande says there is a great need to reduce the crime rate in Lenasia.
“We appeal to the community to be alert at all times, especially women and children, and refuse to be exploited. We further urge the community to avoid giving unknown persons lifts at deserted areas and to be alert when they stop at different places, such as stop streets, robot intersections and even at their residences.”
Ndimande has urged the community report any criminal activities to the SAPS National Crime Stop line at 08600 10111 or Lenasia Police Station at (011) 213-6045/6 or alternatively at (011) 213-6057 or free from the cellphone at 112 for further police assistance.
