The Lenasia Muslim School (LMS) says it has taken note of reports circulating on social media regarding an attempted kidnapping at the school.
A message broadcast on WhatsApp details an attempted abduction at the institution where a grade 2 pupil was allegedly chased by man who dressed like her father.
The message further claims that the little girl ran into the school and hid in a classroom under a teachers desk where the alledged perpetrator tried to grab her before she escaped to an office where there was a school official.
LMS says it has conducted an investigation and have determined that details surrounding the incident remain sketchy and inconclusive.
“The school security guard as well as two educators were on duty at the time of the incident. Further we were assisted by Brother Faizel Ally, director of the MRU (Muslim Response Unit) Security Services who volunteered his services at the gate closer to the tuckshop. None of the above observed any suspicious behaviour.”
LMS has urged the parents of pupils at the school to verify information before broadcasting it on social media or other platforms so as to avoid unnecessary panic.
