A man has been shot in an attempted hijacking on Nirvana Drive in Lenasia, south of Johannesburg.

The man was leaving his home for work at about 8am on Thursday morning when he was accosted by four armed men who had been waiting for him in the park close to his home.

The suspects got into the vehicle with the man and when he tried to stave them off, three shots rang out.

One of the bullets hit the man in the stomach.

“At the moment we don’t know the motive, but some plastics that were inside the car were taken,” the polices Kay Makhubela told Radio Islam.

According to a source, the suspects were on foot.

Makhubela said a case of attempted murder has been opened and the investigation is ongoing.

The man was rushed to Lenmed Private Hospital in Lenasia where he is in a serious but stable condition.
