A Lenasia man has made a brief appearance in the Soweto Magistrates Court after he allegedly beat a 50-year-old woman to death with a baseball bat.

The 28-year-old man was arrested last week in Extension 9.

The woman’s body was found by her daughter last month after her father called her to check the whereabouts of his wife whose car was found abandoned at a road block.

The police’s Hector Netshivodza says the case has been postponed for further investigation.

“A 28-year-old man was arrested by police in the early hours in Lenasia. The suspect was charged with murder and possession of stolen goods after he was found in possession of the car keys of a Mercedes Benz which belongs to the deceased.”

Netshivodza says the man has been remanded in custody.
