The Lenasia Community Policing Forum (CPF) has taken top honours at the Gauteng Provincial Governments second annual Gauteng Community Safety awards.
The awards were held at the Johannesburg City Hall on Thursday where Gauteng Community Safety MEC Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane delivered the keynote address.
The awards seeks to recognise and acknowledge the best performing members of Gauteng law enforcement agencies and social partners who contribute positively in creating a safer and secure environment for Gauteng citizens.
Lenasia CPF scooped first place out of a 144 other community policing forums across the province.
Second and third place went to Edenpark and Wonderboom CPF.
Lenasia CPF Chairperson Ebrahim Asvat says they are ecstatic by the award.
“It’s a great feeling, we have great team of people that work. We formed great partnerships with SAPS, with JMPD, with all the stakeholders and that has paid dividends.”
Asvat has urged the community of Lenasia to be more vigilant and aware of crime and to assist the CPF in keeping residents safe.
