The bodies of two cousins from Lenasia, south of Johannesburg have been recovered at the Raaswater Resort near Potchefstroom in the North West province after they drowned on Thursday morning.

According to a family member, 17-year-old Mohammad Sadek and 25-year-old Fayaaz Osman went fishing at the resort when Mohammad Sadek fell into the river and was swept away by the raging current.

While attempting to rescue Mohammad Sadek, Fayaaz Osman was also swept away by the current.

“Fayaaz went in after him…they were at a spot where they couldn’t stand and they both were pulled down,” said the family member.

Police divers searched extensively from Thursday morning before recovering the bodies down river on Friday afternoon.

“The family is extremely heartbroken and distraught by the tragedy,” said the family member.
