Lawley Protest over No Electricity

December 03, 2014

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News, 2014-12-03

A protest at the Lawley informal settlement south of Johannesburg disrupted traffic on Wednesday morning.

Protestors blocked the road with rocks and burning tyres forcing motorists to take alternate routes.

It’s understood residents of the informal settlements are protesting over no electricity.

“There are protests in Lawley, south of Johannesburg and motorists should avoid the old Lawley road which passes the Lenasia station as it is closed between Lenasia Drive and the R580,” said Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar.

The K43 and R580 can be used as alternative routes on Wednesday morning, he said.

Police have been deployed to the area and are monitoring the situation.
