The Israeli army forces recaptured the remaining two Palestinians who escaped from the Gilboa High-Security prison in Israel early Sunday morning. It was a full two weeks since they had run and were recaptured in the city of Jenin.

The prisoners are hailed as heroes and have communicated with their attorneys to give their side of the story.

The escape has highlighted the severe mental and physical abuse that the Israeli forces subject prisoners to.

Mohammed Arida, the mastermind behind the escape, spoke to his lawyer, saying that he had been brutally assaulted and tortured since his re-arrest.

Another prisoner, Zakaria Zubeidis, was beaten so severely that his cheekbones and a few ribs were fractured. His lawyers say that they are unsure whether he was sent to the hospital for treatment or not.

The prisoners also shared information about their escape plan. They began the digging in December 2020, using spoons, plates, anything they could find to dig. Once they managed to escape, they walked to a nearby village, and it was there where they separated.
