Now that Saudi Arabia has confirmed that Hajj will go ahead with limited pilgrims residing only in the Kingdom, Health Minister Dr. Tawfiq Al-Rabiah says several strict health measures and protocols will be implemented to prevent COVID-19 from spreading.
The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reports that Hajj and Umrah Minister Dr. Muhammad Saleh Benten and Al-Rabiah were addressing a joint virtual press conference.
Benten says he expects that number of domestic pilgrims performing Hajj this year will not exceed 10,000 and also confirmed that no pilgrims from outside the Kingdom will be allowed to perform Hajj this year.
Dr. Al-Rabiah stressed that pilgrims must be younger than 65 years and not be suffering from any chronic illnesses.
Saudi Arabia’s Hajj & Umrah Ministry on Monday confirmed that it took the decision to allow Hajj to go ahead with limited pilgrims to ensure that Hajj is performed in a safe manner while observing all preventative measures and the necessary social distancing protocols to protect pilgrims from the risks associated with COVID-19 and in accordance with the teachings of Islam in preserving life.
To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the health ministry, in collaboration with the Hajj and Umrah Ministry has developed the plan to ensure the safety of all pilgrims.
Meanwhile a number of countries and organizations have endorsed the Kingdom’s decision to limit performance of this year 1441 AH Hajj to a very limited number of pilgrims from within the kingdom to protect the health and safety of pilgrims.
