Kathrada Foundation Meets SADTU Over Transformation & Racism at Lenz High

February 03, 2018

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 03-02-2018

The Ahmed Kathrada Foundation says it has met with the leadership of the South African Democratic Teachers Union to discuss transformation and alleged racism at Lenasia Secondary School.

It emerged on Thursday that Sadtu were allegedly planning to march to the school to protest over the lack of transformation, alleged racism and ill treatment of black students and the removal of the current principal.

The Kathrada foundation says while the teachers union raised a number of issues about transformation that were of concern to them, they had no intention to stage any protests at Lenasia Secondary.

Spokesperson Neeshan Balton says the Kathrada Foundation has offered to work with Sadtu and the school to deal with any issues of transformation and racism, but made it clear that such interventions would need to be approved and supported by the Gauteng Department of Education.

“It might well be that there are issues of transformation that need to addressed because the entire country is dealing with issues of transformation. In that vain, we really appeal to all concerned party to deal with this matter with a level of clam and respect and dignity and which does not in any way jeopardise teaching and learning.”
