The Ahmed Kathrada Foundation has condemned the racist remarks made by a Durban businessman who called President Cyril Ramphosa the “K” word.
In a video circulating on social media, Kessie Nair calls Ramaphosa by the K-word twice saying the president is mocking Mandela’s legacy and that he was prepared to go to prison for his views, or to even be shot.
In the almost five-minute long video, Nair, the CEO, founder and creator the National Association towards Violence Crime and Abuse (Navcare), demands that Ramaphosa be charged for failing the nation.
It’s understood Nair is a former local councillor who served six years in prison for corruption.
The Ahmed Kathrada Foundation’s Neeshan Balton says there is no justification for the racist remarks made by Nair.
“To blame President Ramaphosa for all of the things that are gone wrong in this country is misplaced, it ill-considered and its downright racist. We are also aware a statement by family members who make it quite clear that the family is equally appalled.
A case has been opened at the Bayview Police Station against Nair by community activist and former eThekwini councillor Brandon Pillay.
