Motorists have been urged not to use the K43 highway leading out of Lenasia South, Ennerdale and Finetown on Monday morning following volatile protest action

Protestors have blocked the K43 with rocks and burning tyres.

It’s believed residents of informal settlements are protesting government’s decision to deploy the red ants to demolish all illegal shacks build on land not belonging to them.

Residents apparently want their land to be approved by the government and also be eligible for essential services.

The JMPD’s Wayne Minnaar says motorists should use alternate routes out of Lenasia South, Ennerdale and Finetown.

“There’s currently massive protests in Lenasia South. Roads which are blocked particularly the K43 and the provincial road is affected, so motorists are advised to make use of the Golden Highway at the moment. K43 is definitely a no go because of rocks and burning tyres which was caused since about 1am this morning.”

Minnaar says JMPD officers are monitoring the protest.
