Junaid Jamshed’s funeral takes place today

December 15, 2016

Radio Islam and Agencies | 15 December 2016/15 Rabi ul Awwal 1437

Funeral prayers of singer-turned-Da’ee Junaid Jamshed, who died in the PK-661 air crash last week, were held in Karachi at AKD Ground, DHA Phase 8, after Zuhr today.

Religious scholar and close confidant Maulana Tariq Jameel was said to lead the Janazah Salah. Jamshed will be laid to rest at the Darul-Uloom, in Karachi’s Korangi area.

The funeral was scheduled to be held at Moin Khan Academy but the venue was changed to AKD Ground earlier today. Heavy contingents of Rangers and police have been deployed at the venue. A Bomb Disposal squad also searched the venue to detect any explosives. Sniffer dogs were also used to check the venue for any explosive material or bomb devices.

Junaid Jamshed’s body was handed over to his brother Humayun Jamshed on Wednesday. He was identified through facial X-ray and dental history on December 12, 2016 – six days after the fateful plane crash.

The body of Nahya Jamshed, his wife, has been transferred to CMH Lahore, according to brother-in-law Dr. Faisal. Her funeral prayers will be offered in a mosque near her residence in Askari 10.

She will be buried in Cavalry Ground graveyard, while a Khatam for her will be held in Islamabad.

On Wednesday, Janazah prayers for Jamshed also took place at Nur Khan Air base in Rawalpindi.
