Esteemed Islamic Scholar Ml Ebrahim Bham has urged the Muslim community in South Africa to stop joking about Islam.
Ml Bham was speaking during the social programme on Radio Islam on Thursday.
While Islam and Muslims have come under fire from across the world, some Muslims have made a mockery of the religion.
Ml Bham says Muslims should refrain from joking about serious matters and from excessive laughter as it deadens the heart.
“This aspect of joking with deen is off limits. Stop joking about deen. Calling a woman who wears a black burqa and a niqaab as a ninja is off limits. You don’t do that. You can joke about other things, but don’t joke on matters of deen.”
Ml Bham says joking about deen has serious consequences as Allah states in the Qur’an.
“O believers, those whom you see joking about deen, don’t even befriend them.”
Ml Bham says awareness must be raised in communities and among musallee’s, especially the younger generation in the masaajid, educating and urging them to uphold the beauty of Islam the way Nabi Muhammad (PBUH) did.
