Johannesburg Water (JW) has unveiled the 15 ml Lenasia High reservoir in Lenasia and Hospital Hill area that will supply clean and fresh water to Lenasia youth, Zakariya Park, Vlakfontien and surrounding areas in the South.

The project which has been in construction since August 2020, was halted several times due to the Covid-19 lockdown, land invasions in the area and documentation. Finally, the project was completed early this year.

“We are very excited by the new reservoir, it will really help the people of our area,” says councillor Puseletso Nzimande.

Speaking to Radio Islam, JW project manager, Joseph Mokoala says this project is one of the three phases that they have implemented in the area. “The objective of this project was to increase storage capacity, to ensure adequate water supply to the Lenasia community and the surrounding and to reduce water interruptions in the area and to improve overall customer service,” says Mokoala.

City of Joburg’s mayor, Mpho Phalatse, Member of the Mayoral Committee: Michael Sun and Managing Director of JW: Ntshavheni Mukwevho, were in attendance at the anticipated event Ward 120 councillor: Puseletso Nzimande as well as the team of Johannesburg water.

“We are making Johannesburg functional again,” says Mayor Phalatse as she expressed her gratitude to the JW team. She added: “water is life and it is our constitutional right to uphold the rights of our communities by providing clean water.”

Outlining the City of Johannesburg budget for the 2022/2023 financial year that takes effect from 1 July, R930 million has been allocated to JW in capital expenditure out of the R773 billion.
