The High Court in Johannesburg has ordered an orphanage in Lenasia to pay an amount of R13,200 to release goods seized from the organization by the office of the Sheriff.
On Tuesday the Sheriff confiscated essential household items and computer equipment from the Global Relief Welfare Service, which houses about sixty girls after a security guard employed by the orphanage lodged a complaint with the labour court.
The security guard was apparently replaced with another official after he failed to return to work following his leave in December last year which resulted in the dispute.
Legal counsel for Global Relief Welfare Service Moosa Vardalia says they are happy that the orphanage can finally get their items back.
Vardalia says the amount payable to the Sheriff is the CCMA total for compensation of the aggrieved ex-employee.
“We had a judge who showed compassion to our cause. However we agreed the organization has to pay R13,200 to the Sheriff’s trust account and on receiving such money, the Sheriff will immediately release the goods attached, but our clients have to collect.”
Vardalia has thanked the community of Lenasia for their support and urged residents to donate generously to the cause of getting the orphanages goods back.
