As Gauteng braces for another heat wave, Joburg Emergency Services (JMS) have urged residents to stay hydrated and out of the sun.

The South African Weather Service issued a warning for heatwave conditions on Wednesday for Gauteng with extreme temperatures expected from Thursday until Sunday.

It says the heatwave will also affect surrounding provinces including Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Free State, North West, Northern Cape, Western Cape, and Eastern Cape.

Joburg emergency services Robert Mulaudzi says residents must take precaution against the heatwave conditions.

Mulaudzi says they will remain on high alert for any emergencies.

“Resident are urged to stay hydrated at all times, drink lots of water and also try and avoid direct sunlight especially between eleven and three.”

Mulaudzi has also encouraged youngsters trying to cool down to visit Joburg’s public swimming pools and refrain from going to river streams and dams citing a number of drowning incidents.
