JMPD Doing All it Can to Curb Rock Problem on N12

October 30, 2017

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 30-10-2017

The City of a Johannesburg’s Public Safety Department says it is fully aware of the problem of rocks which get placed on the N12 near Lenasia resulting in accident and hijackings.

Criminals use the stretch of highway in an attempt to hijack motorists by placing rocks on the road or throwing rocks from the overhead bridge to get cars to stop.

Several motorists have been hijacked and even lost their lives in accidents as a result of the stone-throwing modus operandi.

The JMPD’s Wayne Minnaar says officers have been patrolling that section of the freeway including all of the freeways within the municipal jurisdiction of Johannesburg.

“Joburg public safety is aware rocks being placed on the N12 by individuals with criminal intent, but they run when they see officers and go to another spot. So motorists are encouraged to be extra vigilant especially at night and should report when they rocks or suspicious behaviour to JMPD so the suspects can be arrested.”

Last year Ebrahim (Babes) Karolia was tragically killed after his car rolled when it hit a rock on the N12 West heading towards Lenasia after the Golden Highway exit.
