With the cold front expected to hit Gauteng by Thursday, the Johannesburg Emergency Service’s says its disaster management has been placed on standby.
Most parts of Gauteng province including the City of Johannesburg will see a significant drop in temperatures with wet conditions at the weekend.
Temperatures are expected to drop around a maximum of 11 and 15 degrees.
Joburg Emergency Services Robert Mulaudzi says they concerned about the significant drop in temperatures.
He says disaster management teams will be on standby, especially at the 189 informal settlements from Wednesday evening.
“We want to urge our residents to exercise caution when they try to warm themselves as we know they will be using paraffin stoves, candles, heaters, bowla’s. So we are advising them to use all heating and lighting appliances safely so that we can prevent fire incidents.”
Mulaudzi also says motorists should be cautious on wet roads urging them to keep safe following distances to avoid accidents.
