In the wake of a prolonged drought that has led to the current water crisis in some parts of the country, the Jamiatul Ulama South Africa has called upon the Muslim community to arrange mass prayers for rain known as Salaatul Istisqaa.
The organisation has also encouraged congregations from other parts of the country, where the drought is now reaching crisis proportions, to make their own arrangements to observe this prayer in their designated venues. Congregants are requested to inquire from their imams of any local arrangements.
In Johannesburg, the prayers have been scheduled to take place as follows:
Date: Sunday, 8 November 2015
Time: 6:00 am
Venue: Arthur Bloch Park (Cnr 11th Ave and Dolphin St, Mayfair)
So far, it has been confirmed that in Lenasia, congregants will gather at the open grounds situated off Nirvana Avenue, on Sunday, 8 November 2015 where proceedings will start at 06:00am.
On the same day, in Benoni, the prayer programme will commence at 05:30am. The venue is Masjid Bilaal (RA) Grounds, Drakensburg Ave in Actonville.
Guidelines for the observance of this special prayer have been published and can be accessed from the website www.islamsa.org.za
“When we turn to the Almighty, it is important that we do so with a sense of introspection. To this end, it is essential that we seek forgiveness from our Creator and Sustainer,” Secretary General of Jamiatul Ulama Moulana Ebrahim Bham said.
“Oh Allah Shower upon us abundant rain, beneficial not harmful, swiftly and not delayed.”- (Sunan of Abu Dawud)
