Jamiatul Ulama SA Condemns Escalating Violence in Syria

May 05, 2016

Faizel Patel, 2016-05-05

The Jamiatul Ulama South Africa has condemned the escalating level of violence targeting innocent civilians in the on-going war in Syria.

In a statement, secretary general of the Jamiat Moulana Ebrahim Bham says regardless of a reported ceasefire they are dismayed at the reports of wanton loss of life in many parts of Syria.

“In particular, we have received reports of the continuing fighting in Aleppo where in the last two weeks alone, over 300 have lost their lives. Tonight, we have been shocked, yet again, at the news of an air strike at Kamounia refugee camp in the province of Idlib.”

Moulana Bham says there cannot be any military solution to the strife in the beleaguered Syria.

“We therefore appeal to regional powers, belligerent parties, their allies and the leading nations involved in the military conflict, to consider easing the suffering of the masses by sustaining a ceasefire.”

He says the world fails humanity by sustaining a conflict whose stalemate only means misery, destruction, mayhem and dislocation of a people forced into indignity.
