December 13, 2018

Radio Islam International – 2018/12/13

The Jamiatul Ulama South Africa together with the Gift of the Givers are sending 51 tonnes of tinned food to Yemen.

Departing from the Gift of the Givers dispatch centre in Bramley Johannesburg on Thursday, were three containers destined for Taiz and Lahaj.

Secretary General of the Jamiat Moulana Ebrahim Bham says he hopes the aid will bring some relief to the people of Yemen.

“The Waqful Waqifeen and the Jamiatul Ulama South Africa are sending three containers with 51 tonnes of food, may Allah Ta’aala make it easy for them and Allah Ta’aala reward the donors.”

The continued conflict in Yemen is pushing millions of people in the war torn country to the brink of famine.

The current level of hunger in Yemen is unprecedented and causing severe hardship for millions of people.

Despite ongoing humanitarian assistance, it is reported that 15.9 million people wake up hungry every day.

The rate of child malnutrition is one of the highest in the world.

Gift of the Givers coordinator in Yemen Anas Alhamaty says around thirty two containers have reached Yemen from South Africa, bringing relief to thousands of people.

“This will aid around seven thousand families which is plus minus fourty thousand people, in Taiz, in Lahaj, in Aydin and this will make them feel secure.”

A recent survey showed that almost one third of families have gaps in their diets, and hardly ever consume foods like pulses, vegetables, fruit, dairy products or meat.
