The Jamiatul Ulama South Africa says it has noted with concern the raids on homes and arrests of fours suspects for alleged terrorism activities.
Twin brothers Brandon-Lee Thulsie and Tony-Lee Thulsie and two others were arrested by the Hawks during a house raid in Newclare and Aaadville over the weekend.
In a statement, secretary general of Jamiatul Ulama Moulana Ebrahim Bham says it is their belief that the investigations as well as the judicial process revolving around the raids will take their due course in order to reach their logical conclusion without prejudice.
“As we have said in our various statements at different occasions in the past, the Muslim community in South Africa, does not condone any activities that either perpetrate or abet acts of terror.”
Moulana Bham says they will continue to uphold and advocate for the rule of law in order to preserve the freedom and peace that prevail in the new South Africa and beyond.
The Thulsie brothers appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrates Court today and have been charged with three counts of terrorism.
They will remain in custody until next week when they have the opportunity to apply for bail.
