Jamiat SA Raises Concerns about Muslim Female Visa Biometrics Captured by Males

December 05, 2017

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 05-12-2017

The Jamiatul Ulama South Africa says it has written to the Saudi Arabian Embassy in South Africa expressing concerns about biometrics of Muslim female visa applicants being captured by males.

Saudi Arabian embassies in several countries have started taking biometrics of Umrah visa applicants following a new measure that came into effect from the beginning of the new Hijra year.

It’s understood the new system will ensure better services to visa applicants.

In a letter, the Jamiat’s Moulana Ebrahim Bham says biometrics of Muslim females being captured by male staff is not consistent with Islamic standards

“Over and above this, Muslim females naturally find it uncomfortable to be attended to by males. We trust that the Saudi Arabia Embassy would remain sensitive to the above sentiment and accommodate Muslim ladies accordingly.”

The biometric process in South Africa came into effect on 4 December.
