The Jamiatul Ulama South Africa has set up an emergency relief fund to assist those afflicted in the flood ravaged Indian State of Kerala.
The tourist hotspot has been badgered by torrential monsoon rains since May, triggering landslides and flash floods that have swept away entire villages.
Local officials have warned that people are facing a “great struggle to rebuild their lives”, as high waters that have killed hundreds of people and displaced more than a million others start to recede.
The floods have caused $3bn worth of damage, with about 10,000km of Kerala’s roads and more than 100,000 houses needing to be reconstructed.
The community of South Africa and surrounds have always responded to the needs of not only local projects but very positively to the cries of calamity and grief-stricken people across the globe.
The Jamiat SA’s ‘International Relief Aid Team’, as and when needed, co-ordinate relief efforts in order to assist those in need.
“Allah is helping the servant as long as the servant is helping his brother.”
