As the country moves into day 51 of the national lockdown, the Jamiatul Ulama South Africa relief team has continued its sterling work by providing much needed aid to the less fortunate.
Many organizations like the Jamiat and the public are working together to offer support for the homeless, impoverished and elderly who are struggling to cope during the COVID-19 lockdown.
On Saturday, the Jamiat distributed more than 400 hampers at the OR Tambo informal settlement near Randfontein.
The Jamiat’s Ml Assad Pandor says the community consist of mainly farm labourers who are struggling to make end meet under the current Coronavirus lockdown.
“Alhamdulillah distribution went of very, very smoothly. The people were very appreciative of the assistance the Muslim community rendered towards them. Alhamdulillah, we continue asking the community that wherever and however you can assist, let us try an alleviate the sufferings of the people who are really in need of food during this trying times.”
The West Rand Social Development Department Nomonde Mpetshwa has thank the Muslim community and the Jamiat for their generous donations and assistance.
“I just want to thank Jusa, we have worked with them in the West Rand so much. They’ve actually covered a lot of areas and they were very pleasant to work with them. What I like about them also they were always on time. They actually alleviate a burden, more of our people are fed by them.”
Recipients of the relief, Steven and Daniel Mokwena were very appreciative of the relief that was provided.
“We would like to thank the Jamiat for the donation. Since this Corona thing, we’ve been affected by unemployment, but at least now they donated food for us. Since the Coronavirus, our living status is very terrible. Thank you lot Jusa for thinking about our community.”
Mpetshwa says the Jamiat also has a very efficient way of working and distributing food parcels, an example of which they hope to use in the future.
