Israel and Palestinian Islamic Jihad declare a truce in Gaza

August 08, 2022

By Neelam Rahim

There is a ceasefire in Gaza. How long it will hold and what happens next remains to be seen.

Speaking to Radio Islam International is the Director of The Islamic University of Gaza, Dr Said Elnamrouti.

According to Dr Said, during the last days of the aggression from Israel, the people only had four hours of electricity which was cut off for sixteen hours. During the four hours of having electricity, it still gets cut off. In terms of the water supply, there is suffering due to the water shortage as the supply depends on electricity.

Hopefully, after the ceasefire, things will get a little better than what the people have been experiencing in the last few days. He added that much difficulty is experienced with electricity and water supply and medical aid, which worsens during war and aggression.

Dr Said says, “We as a Palestinian population deserver to live with peace, dignity, freedom, faith and have the right to establish our estate. It’s about eight decades and we are still suffering the bad situation under the aggression, apartheid regime, and bombing. We are good educated people in the world, but unfortunately, the international community have many different obligations but do nothing towards helping the Palestinian people.”

Insight into the life in Gaza with the understanding that in 45 minutes, you can drive from one side to the other side. It is a small compact area considered the world’s largest open-air jail.
