About 120 elderly and senior citizens from across Lenasia are being pampered to special day at Garden World in Muldersdrift by the Islamic Helpline.
The initiative which was started about six years ago by the Jamiatul Ulama aims to provide educational, fun and uplifting programmes for the elderly irrespective of race, creed or religion.
Co-ordinator Rayhannah Vawda says the women aged between 65 and 80-years are always excited about the outings which also allows them to enjoy life in the old age.
“We have speakers from different walks of life on health issues, social, creativity and then we take them out once a year on an outing. That’s how it built up from twenty to ninety ladies that come every month.”
This is what some of the elderly women had to say:
“We’re all very excited, we’re all looking forward to being with one another, help one another and always stand together…”
“An awesome and fantastic job, especially Appa Rayhannah and her team.”
“We are just very excited to go on this trip, and I think its good for the women to be out for the day.”
The grannies also say they love Radio Islam and enjoy listening to the various programmes.
