It is a move that South African’s expected, but still raised a few eyebrows after it was announced.

It has been confirmed that former Eskom CEO, Brian Molefe will become a member of parliament, according to a statement released on Friday afternoon.

Molefe quit in November as Eskom CEO, shortly after the release of former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela’s report “State of Capture” which detailed extensive contact between him and the politically-connected Gupta family.

A tearful Molefe made this announcement at a media briefing last year: “I have, in the interests of good corporate governance, decided to leave my employ at Eskom from January 1 2017. I do so voluntarily; indeed I wish to pay tribute to the unfailing support I have had since I took up office from the chairperson, the board and with those with whom it has been my privilege to work. Together we brought Eskom back from the brink.”

To have ‘another’ man entangled in the former public protector’s report being gifted a seat in parliament substantiates why there are raised eyebrows in every corner, but I say, POINT OF ORDER!

The President of the Republic, Jacob Zuma, basically forms the foundation of the damning report, so; is there any harm being done by appointing Molefe?

Congress of the People’s Dennis Bloem says the decision to appoint Molefe to parliament, is a disgrace and an insult in the face of the Public Protector!

“As one of the people captured by the Gupta’s, you can’t have a person being sworn in as a member of parliament, there is a dark cloud hanging over his head.”

Bloem, however, says there is nothing they can do to stop a person from becoming a member of parliament.
“The ANC has made up their mind to be corrupt, but let’s leave them, 2019 is coming, and they will pay very dearly because of this type of things.”

Brian Molefe becoming MP more than just a job for a disgraced cadre; it shows the fraudulent nature of our electoral system. It must change

In a recent editorial analysis, the Editor-At-Large of the Huffington Post Ferial Haffejee, claims Molefe will never be satisfied with an MP post, taking his background in to consideration.

“Molefe will unlikely want to be an MP. Before Eskom, he led the Public Investment Corporation, the public pension fund asset manager which is the country’s most powerful investor. Prior to that role, he was a rising star at the National Treasury. Having worn three very powerful hats, a position on parliament’s rowdy back-bench may be a little too junior for him.”

So, what’s next South Africa?

It seems that there may a bigger plan in the pipeline for Molefe. But, when will that call be made?
