Police have confirmed they are investigating a case of armed robbery and assault after seven tourists including an Iraqi diplomat were attacked at the Corlett Drive off-ramp in Johannesburg.
It’s understood the Iraqi diplomats had returned to Gauteng after a conference in the Eastern Cape yesterday when they were followed from the OR Tambo International Airport as they made their way to their hotel.
The police’s Vish Naidoo has appealed to anyone with information about the attack to come forward.
“They were accosted by a group of armed men and robbed of their personal belongings. There is also a case of assault, one of the visitors is reportedly injured. This matter is now being investigated by very senior investigators which included senor detectives, crime investigators as well as forensic investigators.”
Naidoo says no arrests have been made.
